It's great to be back in the USA. Reverse culture shock aside. I'm loving the fact that everything here smells good. I have electricity and running water all day. It's not 90 degrees with 90% humidity. And so far, no one has asked me for money or to go to a meeting or to buy drinking water or why things are the way they are.
I'm exhausted. Not so much from the trip as from the 31 hour journey home. I hate airplanes. Hate them. Passionately. And airports, too.
We had an amazing trip. My team was phenomenal. They didn't fight. They were flexible. We suffered from minor illnesses, but no one got extremely ill. They struggled with the facts of a place so dependent on aid, but instead of getting mad, they spent hours trying to figure out what to do about it. They worked hard to finish their tasks. We prepped over 150 kids for sponsorship, treated over 100 kids with health issues, and taught the Story of God curriculum to all of the bible teachers and several other instructors at 15-Gate. We visited the site where our 3rd school will be built and went shopping for locations to build a technical high school. We watched our girls kickball team and boys soccer team play. We toured a local hospital. We helped one of our students with a broken leg to get treatment. I found the place where Jumah grew up and met some of her family members.
I have a million photos but I'm too tired right now to get them all uploaded and linked. This week, I promise. I'm still trying to get over the jet lag and the fact that I don't have 10 staff cooking, cleaning, and doing my laundry for me. Bummer.
More soon...
